Whirlwind week

What a week it has been! We had a load of pots that needed to be glazed and fired. Despite some horrendous weather, Jeff and I managed to get it done. My other task for the week was creating daily social media posts about the Spring studio tour for our local potters group. Now this should have been an easy task, since I have been on this committee for seven years. Wouldn't you know that my aging MacBook Pro decided to start acting up. It's been slowing down for some time now and this week it became a snail. At one point it took me an hour to create a post, find the photo, and upload it. After spending hours on end making changes to try and speed it up, I came to the conclusion that I needed a new laptop BEFORE it totally crashed and burned (been there done that).
I REALLY wanted another MacBook. My bank account said, "In your Dreams". I searched for a refurbished Mac but they were either just a little newer than my 2009 or still way out of my budget.
Jeff found a good price on an HP, that had what I needed and was within the budget.  So here I am trying to adjust to Windows 10 and a new keyboard layout. It will take some time... but I will survive.



The good news is that my baby ginkgo tree survived the winter and has leafed out. The lawn has been mowed for the first time. We unloaded the kiln and it was great firing!

Hello December!

Here we are in the first week of December and yesterday we woke up to this... There was about 2" of snow and then freezing rain all day. We heard tree branched cracking all day. Some of our shrubs and bushes are leaning over. I hope my camellias aren't damaged. The fan on our heat pump was encased in ice started making a thumping sound. Jeff shut it off, de-iced the fan and covered the unit. We are fortunate to also have electric baseboard heat as a back up. We knew the heat pump would ice up again quickly. It's a new unit and we didn't want to take any chances in damaging the motor. There was a lull in the storm overnight but more freezing rain was predicted for the early morning. We woke up to snow instead. I will take snow over freezing rain any day... but I truly prefer the sunshine. It's holiday crunch time for us. While I would have loved to spend a snow day snuggled up on the sofa with a book, it just wasn't in the cards. Jeff and I spent the day glazing...

Global Clay Day at the NC Pottery Center

Jeff will be participating in "Global Clay Day" at the North Carolina Pottery Center this Saturday, October, 20, 2018.  He will demonstrate throwing pots in his Korean style kick wheel as well the mishima inlay techniques. Jeff loves to give demos. It brings out the performer in him! There will be four other potters also giving demonstrations, ranging from raku firing, sculpture, and carving techniques. The event is from 10 am to 4 pm, and there is no admission fee. The pottery center is located just around the corner from our home and studio... Exhibition at Sand Hills Community College

There was a bright spot in our life last week! Jeff and I were invited to participate in an exhibition at Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC. Sandhills is Jeff's alma mater and it was exciting for him to go back and see how the college has grown and changed since the late 70's. Our work is being show along with large scale paintings by Bucky Benson. The show is in the Hastings Gallery, located in the Boyd Library building. It's a really nice space, and Jeff was able to set up the pedestals and pottery. This show is the first collaborative effort between the college and the Arts Council of Moore County.
