Stepping Into The Craft...

Each Saturday in Seagrove many of the potters are offering mini workshops, classes, and demonstrations. Last Saturday, Jeff and I offered three, one hour group pottery lessons. They filled up so quickly that we had to add another class at 6 pm.



We had a mix of kids, families, and groups of friends. There were lots of laughs and lots of clay everywhere. I think everyone had a great time.  Jeff and I were up early the next day to wipe down shelving and mop the floor.
Next weekend is our anniversary event. Can you believe that we have been in Seagrove for eight years? We will be doing demonstrations as well as serving some Asian teas, including matcha, midday. Jeff will talk about the Korean tea ceremony and all the parts and pieces that go along with it. You can see more details in the right sidebar of the blog.


We are enjoying a reprieve from the heat and humidity that we have been experiencing since what seems like mid-May. It's been wonderful to have windows open and feel the fresh air. 

The blackberries are prolific this year, along with the Japanese beetles that love them.


Thankfully, it seems we have enough for us and them.

Hello December!

Here we are in the first week of December and yesterday we woke up to this... There was about 2" of snow and then freezing rain all day. We heard tree branched cracking all day. Some of our shrubs and bushes are leaning over. I hope my camellias aren't damaged. The fan on our heat pump was encased in ice started making a thumping sound. Jeff shut it off, de-iced the fan and covered the unit. We are fortunate to also have electric baseboard heat as a back up. We knew the heat pump would ice up again quickly. It's a new unit and we didn't want to take any chances in damaging the motor. There was a lull in the storm overnight but more freezing rain was predicted for the early morning. We woke up to snow instead. I will take snow over freezing rain any day... but I truly prefer the sunshine. It's holiday crunch time for us. While I would have loved to spend a snow day snuggled up on the sofa with a book, it just wasn't in the cards. Jeff and I spent the day glazing...

Global Clay Day at the NC Pottery Center

Jeff will be participating in "Global Clay Day" at the North Carolina Pottery Center this Saturday, October, 20, 2018.  He will demonstrate throwing pots in his Korean style kick wheel as well the mishima inlay techniques. Jeff loves to give demos. It brings out the performer in him! There will be four other potters also giving demonstrations, ranging from raku firing, sculpture, and carving techniques. The event is from 10 am to 4 pm, and there is no admission fee. The pottery center is located just around the corner from our home and studio... Exhibition at Sand Hills Community College

There was a bright spot in our life last week! Jeff and I were invited to participate in an exhibition at Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC. Sandhills is Jeff's alma mater and it was exciting for him to go back and see how the college has grown and changed since the late 70's. Our work is being show along with large scale paintings by Bucky Benson. The show is in the Hastings Gallery, located in the Boyd Library building. It's a really nice space, and Jeff was able to set up the pedestals and pottery. This show is the first collaborative effort between the college and the Arts Council of Moore County.
